Two Europa League games in the VELTINS-Arena

The VELTINS-Arena will host two Europa League games once the tournament resumes in August.

The first game in Gelsenkirchen will be on 5th August (21:00 CEST) between Inter Milan and FC Getafe, with the two sides looking to reach the quarterfinals. The first leg wasn’t played between those teams, as is the case with Sevilla and AS Roma. Both ties will therefore be decided over one game. The Sevilla-Roma match will be played on 6th August in Duisburg (18:55 CEST).

The first leg of all the other six last-16 ties was played before the interruption to the season. UEFA announced on Thursday (9/7) that the second legs will be played in the original venues (i.e. the home team will get to play at home).

The quarterfinal between the winner of VfL Wolfsburg-Shakhtar Donetsk and the winner of Eintracht Frankfurt-FC Basel will also be played ‘auf Schalke’. The other quarterfinals will be played in Düsseldorf, Cologne and Duisburg. The semi-finals will be held in Düsseldorf and Cologne, while the final will take place in Cologne. The final three rounds of the tournament will see ties played over one leg, instead of a home and away leg which is normally the case in European competition.
