The first round of PCR testing on Monday (26/4) returned two positive Covid-19 cases. The individuals affected are a player as well as a member of FC Schalke 04's first-team backroom staff. All other PCR tests came back negative. Both individuals had tested negative during a previous round of testing on Friday (23/4). The rapid tests done in parallel with the PCR tests on Monday also came back negative.

Today’s training session has been cancelled as a precaution, and the team has returned home. Rapid tests done on the remainder of the first-team squad on Tuesday (27/4) have returned no further positive results. The results of today’s PCR tests are expected to be available tomorrow morning. Further tests will be done on Wednesday and Thursday. The results of these tests will determine if and when the team will be able to return to training under the protective measures.

Team doctor Dr. Patrick Ingelfinger, who is also in charge of the team’s hygiene concept, is in close contact with the Gelsenkirchen health authority and other authorities in order to coordinate and discuss further measures. Schalke 04 will of course implement all decisions set forth by the authorities. The club is asking for the privacy of those affected to be respected.
