World Cup 2018 draw: A Royal Blue battle in Group E

On Friday 1st December, the footballing world turned its attention to Moscow. In the Russian capital, the groups for the 2018 World Cup were decided.

While Leon Goretzka, Breel Embolo, Matija Nastasic and Amine Harit completed their final training session ahead of tomorrow’s game with 1. FC Köln, their respective nations (Germany, Switzerland, Serbia and Morocco) discovered who they will be facing in Russia next summer.

The draw led to an all-Royal Blue rumble as Breel Embolo’s Switzerland take on Matija Nastasic’s Serbia in Group E as well as fellow group participants Brazil and Costa Rica.

Leon Goretzka and the Germany national team are in Group F with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea and Amine Harit’s Morocco find themselves in Group B with Spain, Portugal and Iran.

Whether Schalke players will meet once again in the knockout stages of the competition is yet to be seen but, first and foremost, the nations’ head coaches must decide at the end of the season whether their Royal Blue contingent will make the final squad. The tournament takes place from June 14th to July 15th 2018.
