Ahmed Kutucu called up to Turkey’s senior side

National coach Senol Günes has called up Ahmed Kutucu to Turkey’s senior side after they secured qualification for EURO 2020 with a 0-0 draw against Iceland on Thursday evening (14/11). The 19-year-old was previously in Turkey’s U21s squad for this international break.

Ahmed Kutucu

Schalke striker Ahmed Kutucu could make his Turkey debut soon. The Turks secured their place at Euro 2020 with a 0-0 draw against Iceland on Thursday night (14/11), and as a result, national coach Senol Günes called up three players for the final group agme in Andorra on Sunday (17/11, 20:45 CET). Kutucu was previously part of the U21s squad due to play Andorra’s U21s on Tuesday evening.

A draw was enough

The stalemate against Iceland was enough to keep Turkey’s four-point lead over their opponents, meaning they sealed their place in the final tournament next summer. Günes’ side were the better of the two teams, but failed to break the deadlock in the Group H game.

Ozan Kabak didn’t appear in Istanbul and, like Kutucu, will be hoping to make his senior debut in Andorra. Turkey are only two points behind group leaders France ahead of the last group game, so they still have a chance of winning group H.
