Ibrahima Cissé qualifies for 2024 Olympics after bronze medal at U23 AFCON

Ibrahime Cissé and Mali celebrated a third-place finish at the U23 AFCON on Friday (7/7). The S04 centre-back featured for the full match as Mali won 4-3 on penalties (0-0 a.e.t.) and successfully qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Peter Knäbel, Schalke’s board member for sport, was also in attendance at the game, having flown to Morocco to support Cissé. The two met prior to the game and spoke about the tournament.

Cissé featured for the full length of all of Mali’s group stage games and was included in the tournament’s official group stage XI. The 22-year-old was subbed off in the closing stages of Mali’s semi-final loss to Morocco (4-3 on pens., 2-2 a.e.t.).
