Darko Churlinov played the entire match for North Macedonia, who were unable to produce another shock result against Germany in Skopje on Monday 11th October, suffering a 4-0 defeat in their World Cup qualifier.

The Schalke player missed the opportunity to score a consolation goal in the 88th minute. Goals from Kai Havertz (50’), Timo Werner (70’ and 73’) and Jamal Musiala (83’) secured the win for Hansi Flick’s side, atoning for their 2-1 defeat to North Macedonia during their last encounter at the end of March.

Germany’s seventh win in eight games means they have already won their group and become the first team besides the hosts to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. North Macedonia are currently in third place in qualifying group J on twelve points, whilst Romania occupy second in the table with 13 points. The team that finishes in second place advances to the play-off round and still has a chance to qualify for the World Cup finals. Armenia currently sit in fourth place in the group with 12 points ahead of Iceland (eight points), who defeated Liechtenstein 4-0 on Monday without the absent Victor Pálsson. The midfielder returned from international duty early for workload management reasons.

The final group games will take place in November. North Macedonia will travel to play Armenia on the 11th November, the same day that Iceland face off against Romania. North Macedonia and Iceland will then play each other three days later.
