Darko Churlinov scores in a 4-0 win for North Macedonia

The 21-year-old scored his first international goal in North Macedonia’s 4-0 win over Liechtenstein in a World Cup qualifier. Victor Pálsson drew 1-1 against Armenia with Iceland.

Another start for Churlinov

North Macedonia’s World Cup qualification campaign is going well so far, having only lost on the opening matchday (25/3) against Romania. Since then, they have gone unbeaten, even defeating group leaders Germany away from home on matchday 3. As a result, they went into their game against Liechtenstein on matchday 7 as clear favourites, which was completely justified.

S04’s Darko Churlinov started and played the full 90 minutes. This was his fourth consecutive start for the national team.

After somewhat struggling to a 1-0 lead at the break, they showed their strength in the second half. Churlinov’s 83rd-minute goal rounded off the 4-0 win in Vaduz and it was his first for his country. North Macedonia now sit second before Monday’s big game against Germany in Group J (11/10).

Pálsson draws against Armenia

Schalke midfielder Victor Pálsson is in the same group with Iceland. On matchday 6, they faced Armenia, going into the game as outsiders with just four points from six games so far. Armenia, meanwhile, were second before this clash.

Pálsson & Co. were a good match for Armenia, although the away team scored the only goal of the first half. Isak Bergmann Johannesson grabbed an equaliser after the break to secure a point for Iceland.

Iceland did also manage to avoid defeat against another top team in the group, North Macedonia, drawing 2-2 back in September. Their next match is at home to Liechtenstein on Monday (11/10), a game they will expect to win having beaten them 4-1 in the reverse fixture.
