Konoplyanka's corner leads to equaliser

Konoplyaka’s Ukraine earned a respectable 1-1 draw in Italy (Wednesday, 10/10). Schalke’s number 11 played 73 minutes in Genoa. The hosts started better and had a number of chances in the opening moments. Ukraine’s first real chance came after 25 minutes, but Gianluigi Donnarumma was able to deny a Konoplyanka shot from a narrow angle.

Federico Bernardeschi then gave the Azzuri the lead on 55 minutes, after a mistake from Ukraine keeper Andriy Pyatov. The visitors were then able to level things just seven minutes later, with Konoplyanka involved in the goal. His corner was headed back across goal by Mykyta Burda and Ruslan Malinovskiy was able to turn the ball home on the turn. Ukraine then had the best chance to win it, but Donnarumma was able to turn Malinovskiy’s free kick onto the bar and scores remained level.
