Malick Thiaw

The Germany U21s, who count Malick Thiaw and Florian Flick in their squad, have successfully qualified for the 2023 U21 EUROs in Romania and Georgia. Head coach Antonio Di Salvo’s side celebrated a 4-0 win against Hungary in their penultimate group stage match on Friday (3/6). Youssoufa Moukoko opened the scoring for Germany in the 17th minute, with Jonathan Burkardt adding another from the spot (31’), before Tom Krauß (76’) and Lazar Samardzic (90’+3) rounded off the result.

Thiaw needed medical attention after a collision with Andras Nemeth, but was able to play on for the full 90 minutes after having a cut on his eyebrow patched up. Florian Flick was an unused substitute, and will need to wait and see if he will make his debut for the side in their final group stage match against Poland on Tuesday (7/6).

A big win for Austria against Croatia

Martin Fraisl is also still waiting to make his international debut. The goalkeeper, who is set to leave S04 this summer, was an unused substitute in Austria’s 3-0 win against Croatia on Friday. Marko Arnautovic (41’), Michael Gregoritsch (54’) and Marcel Sabitzer (57’) all got on the scoresheet for Austria.
