Gold Cup: Weston McKennie heads USA into the semi-finals

Weston McKennie was the USA’s match winner on Monday morning against Curacao in the Gold Cup. The midfielder, whose contract extension had been announced earlier that day at Schalke, headed home a Christian Pulisic cross in the 25th minute to win the game.

“It wasn’t our best game, but our aim was just to get through – and we’ve done just that,” explained McKennie after the game. It was the USA’s fourth straight win without conceding in the tournament.

USA will face Jamaica in the semi-finals on Thursday (4/7). They defeated Panama 1-0 in their quarter-final. The other semi-final will see Haiti take on Mexico.
