A point enough for Germany U20s and Max Grüger to finish first in the Elite League
Germany U20s and Max Grüger won this edition of the Elite League after drawing 1-1 against Portugal on Monday (24/3), the last of their fixtures in the eight-team European tournament.

Schalke’s midfielder came off the bench in the 83rd minute at the Karl-Liebknecht-Stadion in Potsdam. It was his fourth cap for the U20s and his 11th overall for Germany’s youth sides.
The Gelsenkirchen-born youngster was one of 10 players that started Friday’s 1-0 win over Czechia (21/3) to drop to the bench on this occasion. Coach Hannes Wolf had stated his intention to rotate the squad and give minutes to all of his players before this game.
Portugal took the lead in the 52nd minute thanks to a goal from Sporting’s Afonso Moreira, but Henrique Arreiol’s red card a few minutes later allowed Germany a way back into the game. The 2,006 supporters in attendance then saw former Schalke player Mattes Hansen equalise with 15 minutes left to play. Despite the visitors having a great chance to win it in injury time, it ended all square.
The point was enough for Germany to leapfrog England in the Elite League table. Hannes Wolf’s team finished with 16 points from their seven matches.
