High five! Schalke duo shine during U21 win

Cedric Teuchert, Suat Serdar and Alexander Nübel celebrated a convincing win in Ireland, with the trio contributing a large part towards the successful game. For four other Royal Blues, the international break was less enjoyable. Schalke.04.de has summarised the players’ performances.

Cedric Teuchert

Hat-trick for Teuchert, Brace for Serdar

The Germany U21s side is now almost assured to qualify for the 2019 European Championship in Italy and San Marino after a convincing display against Ireland. Two Royal Blues shone in Dublin during the comprehensive 6-0 win. After Aaron Seydel put the team in front, Cedric Teuchert doubled the lead through a penalty kick. In the second half it was once again the S04 players that provided the goals, with Teuchert making it 3-0 and then 4-0 in quick succession, earning himself a hat-trick. However, it apparently wasn’t enough for the Royal Blues to end there. The second half substitute Serdar scored twice after coming on to make it 6-0. Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel can also be very happy with his clean sheet.

Stefan Kuntz’s team has two games left in the qualification stages. His side currently sits at the top of Group 5 with a five point gap between them and their nearest rivals.

Burgstaller and Schöpf lose with Austria

Guido Burgstaller and Alessandro Scöpf had a disappointing evening while on international duty. The two Schalke players lost 1-0 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League. Burgstaller was brought on in the 81st minute for Florian Grillitsch, while Schöpf spent the full 90 minutes on the bench. The only goal of the game came from AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko in the 78th minute.

Bosnia and Herzegovina lead Group 3 of League B with six points from two games. After the loss, Austria sit at the bottom of the group with no points, behind Northern Ireland who also have no points, however have only played one game.

Mckennie injured, Embolo watches from the bench

Weston McKennie was in action for the USA against Mexico in the early hours of the morning. The US team earned a victory against their rivals after Tyler Adams scored the deciding goal in a 1-0 victory. McKennie appeared in the starting XI and played well, however had to make way after 40 minutes due to injury.

Breel Embolo travelled to England with Switzerland for an international friendly. Unfortunately, the Schalke player didn’t come off the bench during the 1-0 loss in Leicester. The deciding goal was scored by Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford in the 54th minute.
