Incredible performance: Weston McKennie scores three goals in 13 minutes

Three Schalke players were in international action on Friday (11/10). The results: a win for Weston McKennie, a draw for Amine Harit and a loss for Ahmed Kutucu. Ozan Kabak also celebrated a victory, but unfortunately played no part in the win.

McKennie with new US record

The US national team started their CONCACAF Nations League campaign with an emphatic 7-0 win over Cuba as Weston McKennie stole the show. Schalke’s midfielder gave the Americans the lead after 30 seconds, doubling their lead after five minutes. McKennie then set up Jordan Morris as he made it three in the ninth minute, before completing his hattrick four minutes later (13’). The 21-year-old broke a new record during an impressive performance: It was the quickest hattrick in the history of the US national team.

The three remaining goals were scored via a Dario Ramos own goal (37’), Werder Bremen’s Joshua Sargent (40’) and Christian Pulisic from the spot (62’). McKennie was subbed off during the break after the game had long been decided and was awarded the Man of the Match award after the final whistle.

Gregg Berhalter’s men will now look towards their next challenge as they face unbeaten Canada on Wednesday night in Toronto (1:30 CEST).

Harit plays in 1-1 draw

Amine Harit started for Morocco as they settled for a 1-1 draw in their friendly against Libya. Jawad El Yamiq gave Harit’s side the lead after 20 minutes, before Sanad Al Warfali equalised for the visitors shortly before the break.

Hamza Mendyl also earned an appearance. The Royal Blues’ left back is currently spending the season on loan at French first division side FCO Dijon. Next up for Morocco is another friendly, this time against Gabon on Tuesday (15/10, 21:00 CEST).

Last-minute winner for Kabak’s side

Ozan Kabak will have to wait a little bit longer to make his debut for his country after failing to appear in Turkey’s European Championship qualifier win over Albania. However, Schalke’s centre back still had reason to celebrate, as Cenk Tosun scored a last-minute winner to preserve their lead at the top of Group H.

Turkey face a difficult trip to France on Monday (14/10) as they take on the world champions in a top of the table clash.

Kutucu and Co. lose while down to nine men

Ahmed Kutucu suffered a convincing defeat, as the striker took part in Turkey U21s’ 3-0 defeat to Austria. Schalke’s number 15 started the game and played almost the full 90 minutes, before being replaced just minutes from time. Turkey only had nine players on the pitch at this point in the game, after Abdurrahim Dursun (53’) and Orkan Kökcu (90’) were both given their marching orders after seeing two yellow cards.

With only four points from five games in Group 3, the Turkish youngsters’ hopes of qualifying for the upcoming European Championships are slim.
