Germany lose as Uth and Rudy do not feature

The Germans once again suffered defeat after their 3-0 loss to the Netherlands last Saturday (13/10/18). Joachim Löw’s team lost 2-1 to France on Tuesday (16/10/18) even though Toni Kroos had put them 1-0 up from the penalty spot in the fourteenth minute. Two goals from Antoine Griezmann in the second half; a super header and a penalty, ensured a turnaround victory for France. Both Schalke players did not feature.

The defeat leaves Germany in a precarious position in League A of the Nations League. If Holland beat France (16/11/18), it would mean that Germany would get relegated into League B and would mean that the game between Germany and Holland in the VELTINS-Arena (19/11/18) would have no impact on their position.

Konoplyanka and Ukraine win

Yesterday evening went much better for Yevhen Konoplyanka and Ukraine. Andriy Shevchenko’s XI beat the Czech Republic with 1-0 and are now top of Group 1 in League B. Ruslan Malinovskiy scored the winning goal for his side in the 43rd minute. Konoplyanka completed 70 minutes.

After three games, Ukraine are in first with nine points, Czech Republic on three and Slovakia are on 0 points in Group 1 League B.

Morocco draw 2-2

Hamza Mendyl and Morocco drew with the Comoros Islands in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. El-Fardou Ben Mohamed took the lead in the ninth minute, but Khalid Boutaib (54 ‚) and Nordin Amrabat (62‘) put the World Cup contenders into the lead. However, in the 90th minute Ben Mohamed scored again to make it 2-2. Mendyl played for the full ninety minutes.

After matchday four, Morocco are on seven points and lay in second in Group B, with Cameroon topping the table with eight points and the Comoros Islands on two points.

Algeria lose in Benin

Nabil Bentaleb and Algeria suffered a 1-0 defeat to Benin in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Sessi D’Almeida scored the only goal of the game in the 16th minute. Bentaleb played 62 minute before being substituted.

After matchday four, Algeria are top of the table level with Benin on seven points but have a better goal difference. Togo have five and Gambia are on two points.

Austria lose in international friendly

Alessandro Schöpf and Guido Burgstaller lost with Austria to Denmark 2-0. Lukas Lerager scored in the 29th minute for the Danes before Martin Braithwaite doubled their lead. Schöpf played for 71 minutes before being substituted whilst Burgstaller played the whole game.

Nübel’s Germany U21s win

The Germany U21s won their last game of the UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign. The team had already qualified but still went on to beat Republic of Ireland 2-0 with Kiel’s Janni Serra and Mainz’s Öztunali scoring for the Germans. S04 keeper Alexander Nübel was an unused substitute whilst Cedric Teuchert was not involved due to an injury from the 2-1 victory over Norway last week. The striker will be out for several weeks.

Germany are on 25 points and are top of the table in Group B. Norway are in second with 15. The U21 Euros are from the 16th to 30th June 2019 in Italy and San Marion. Germany are the defending champions.
