Late joy for Yevhen Konoplyanka

Ukraine clinched the winner in the dying seconds of their Euro qualifier against Luxemburg on Monday (25th March), sealing a 2-1 victory. Gerson Rodrigues headed the ball into his own net in the third minute of added time and gave the Eastern Europeans their first three points of the campaign after a goalless draw in their opening match in Portugal.

Yevhen Konoplyanka

Yevhen Konoplyanka was named in the starting XI and completed the whole 90 minutes in the Stade Josy Barthel. After 34 minutes of play, the Schalke forward, much like his Ukraine teammates, had to wake himself up as Luxemburg went into the lead with a goal from David Turpel. However, Ukraine managed to equalise even before the half-time whistle through Viktor Tsygankov (40’).
