Grüger called up by Germany U20s, Bulut with the Germany U19s

Max Grüger and Taylan Bulut will both be in action during the upcoming international break, having been called up to play for the Germany U20s and U19s respectively.

Grüger was subbed on during the second half of Schalke’s home game against Hannover 96 last Friday (14/3), while Bulut missed the match due to illness. The right-back was able to meet up with the Germany U19s on Sunday evening (16/3) where he will undergo a medical to determine whether he is able to take part in training and games with the team.

Grüger and Germany U20s to face Czechia and Portugal

Max Grüger has been called up by head coach Hannes Wolf as the Germany U20s prepare for two friendlies.

First, they will come up against Czechia on Friday (21/3) in Teplice. Three days later, their opponents in Potsdam will be Portugal (24/3).

U19s looking to qualify for European Championship

Bulut and the Germany U19s will be seeking to book their spots at the upcoming U19 EUROs in Romania (13th to 26th June 2025). The team had finished top of their group during the first round of qualifying in November 2024, after coming up against Hungary, Cyprus and Andorra.

As the second round of qualifying gets underway, Germany’s opponents will be Slovenia (Wedesday, 19/3), Finland (Saturday, 22/3) and Ireland (Tuesday, 25/3). The matches will all take place in Lower Saxony, with Vorsfelde and Gifhorn playing host.

Mika Khadr is on standby for the games. The centre-back will take begin training with the first team next season, having already taken part in the team’s winter training camp in Belek earlier this year.

Uruguay U20 had already been eliminated from contention to win the tournament prior to their match against Paraguay. The top four sides all qualify for the U20 World Cup in autumn, meaning that the ‘Celeste’ will now not be able to take part.

Mauro Zalazar’s dreams of World Cup qualification remain alive after 1-1 draw with Chile

Mauro Zalazar once again started for Uruguay as they picked up their first point of the final stage of the South American U-20 Championship in Venezuela in the early hours of Tuesday (11/2). The Royal Blues’ number 16 played 67 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Chile before the midfielder was substituted off for Gonzalo Petit as his nation sought added attacking impetus.

Mauro Zalazar and Uruguay suffer defeat in goalfest at the South American U-20 Championship

Mauro Zalazar and his Uruguay team fell to another narrow defeat in the final stage of the South American U-20 Championship in Venezuela during the early hours of Saturday morning (8/2), following their 1-0 loss at the hands of Brazil. The ‘Celeste’ ended up on the wrong side of a goalfest against Argentina at the Estadio Nacional Brígido, with the game finishing 4-3.
