Aouchiche makes his Algeria debut

Adil Aouchiche made his senior Algeria debut on Friday evening (27/3) as the Schalke midfielder helped celebrate a 7-0 win over Guatemala. Mika Wallentowitz was also on the winning side with Germany’s U19s in EURO qualifying on Saturday (28/3).

Adil Aouchiche smiles in training

Algeria are currently at a training camp in Italy as part of their preparations for the upcoming World Cup. With Adil Aouchiche included in the squad for the first time, Les Fennecs took on Guatemala in the first of two friendlies. Aouchiche came on in the 69th minute with the score at 5-0, replacing Ramy Bensebaini in the emphatic win. During his debut, he and his teammates then saw out the game with two further goals from Fares Ghedjemis (76’) and Nadhir Benbouali (82’).

Vladimir Petkovic’s side had already built a comfortable lead before the break at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa through Amine Gouiri (19’), captain Riyad Mahrez (31’) and Achref Abada (45’+1). Houssem Aouar (47’) and Amine Gouiri (60’) added two more shortly after the restart. A tougher test is likely to await Aouchiche and his teammates on Tuesday (31/3), when Algeria face Uruguay in Turin at 20:30 CEST in their second friendly of the current international window.

Important win for Wallentowitz and Germany’s U19s

Mika Wallentowitz was in action for Germany’s U19s again on Saturday (28/3). In Elite Round Group I, Christian Wörns’ side faced Greece in their push for EURO qualification – and came away with a 1-0 win thanks to Francis Onyeka’s 84th-minute goal. Wallentowitz was introduced just a minute later. The victory leaves Germany level on four points with group leaders Austria, and the two sides now meet on Tuesday (31/3) at 18:00 CEST. Only the side that finishes top of the four-team group will qualify for the European Under-19 Championship in Wales.
