Matthew Hoppe called up to USMNT Gold Cup squad
On Thursday (1/7), Matthew Hoppe was called up to head coach Gregg Berhalter's UNMNT squad for the upcoming Gold Cup. Hoppe is one of 23 players to have made the roster for the tournament, which runs from 10th July until 1st August and will be hosted in the US.
The USA will face Canada, Martinique and a third, yet to be determined team, in Group B. One of Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Bermuda or Barbados will complete the group following their preliminary round fixtures.
Dimitrios Grammozis is wishing Hoppe all the best for the tournament. “It’s a step forward for Matthew’s development,” he said. Should the USA make it out of the group stage, Hoppe would miss the opening competitive games of the season. He could also make his senior debut for the USA during the Gold Cup, after having been included in one matchday squad so far. The 20-year-old didn’t feature in a 2-1 defeat to Switzerland on 30th May.
