McKennie called up to USA squad for Gold Cup

Weston McKennie has been called up to the USA squad for the upcoming Gold Cup in the United States, Costa Rica and Jamaica. US head coach Gregg Berhalter has included the Royal Blues midfielder in his final 23-man squad for the tournament despite McKennie not featuring in the USA’s 1-0 friendly defeat against Jamaica last night.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup will take place from 16th June to 8th July and the USA will enter the tournament as defending champions from two years ago. Berhalter’s side will begin their title defence in Group B against Guyana (19th June, 04:00 CEST). McKennie will also hope feature against Trinidad & Tobago (23rd June, 02:00 CEST) before the USA close the group stage against Panama (27th June, 03:00 CEST).

The top two teams from each of the four groups will qualify for the quarter-finals. The CONCACAF Gold Cup final takes place at Soldier Field in Chicago on 8th July at 03:15 CEST.
