Only Ozan Kabak in Nations League action

Four Royal Blues were away with their countries for the Nations League, but only Ozan Kabak appeared on matchday 2.

Ozan Kabak

Ozan Kabak played the full 90 minutes in Turkey’s goalless draw in Serbia. Despite dominating large parts of the game – especially after Aleksandar Kolarov was sent off in the 49th minute for the hosts – Turkey couldn’t find a winning goal. Kabak partnered Leicester’s Caglar Soyuncu at centre back. Senol Günes’ picked up their first point of the campaign after losing 1-0 to Hungary on matchday one. Ahmed Kutucu, who started and played 45 minutes in that game, didn’t feature in Belgrade.

Serdar on the bench

After drawing to Spain on the opening matchday, Germany were also held by Switzerland. Ilkay Gündogan gave Germany the lead after 14 minutes, but the hosts pegged them back through Silvan Widmer – his goal was assisted by ex-Schalker Breel Embolo. Suat Serdar, who had come off the bench against Spain, remained an unused substitute in Basel.

Last-minute win for Wales

Three days after their win in Finland to start the campaign, Wales also took the three points in their second group 4 match. Rabbi Matondo didn’t feature in their 1-0 win over Bulgairia in his hometown Cardiff. Neco Williams scored the winner in the fourth minute of added time.
