Raman makes Belgium debut in commanding victory against Scotland

Benito Raman is officially a Belgium international. The 24-year-old forward replaced Thomas Meunier in the 90th minute of the Red Devils’ 4-0 win in Scotland on Monday.

The die was already cast in the match after just 32 minutes. After Romelu Lukaku coolly rounded off an impressive counter attack to score the opening goal (9’), Thomas Vermaelen slotted home following a pinpoint cross from the right (24’), and Toby Alderweireld added a third with his headed effort from a corner (32’). Kevin De Bruyne wrapped up a typically strong individual performance with a second-half goal to make it 4-0 at full time (82’).

Six wins in six European Championship qualifiers means Belgium look almost certain to make it to the finals in 2020. With four games still to play, the Red Devils have eleven points more than Cyprus and Kazakhstan in third and fourth respectively (both seven). Russia are second in the group with 15 points. The top two teams of each group will automatically qualify for the European Championship. Belgium can book their place with a home win against underdogs San Marino on 10th October.
