Royal Blues could face off in EURO 2020

In Bucharest on Saturday (30.11.19) the six groups for EURO 2020 were drawn. More than half a dozen Schalke players were involved with their respective national sides and can therefore all hope to make appearances at the tournament next summer. The next European Championship begins on the 12th of June 2020.

Rabbi Matondo und Ozan Kabak

The Germany national side, which had recently called up Schalke’s Suat Serdar, have been given a tough group. Germany are with current world champions France and reigning European champions Portugal. The fourth member of the squad will qualify through the play-offs.

Kabak and Kutucu vs. Matondo

In Group A there is a Schalke face-off when Turkey’s Ozan Kabak and Ahmed Kutucu will meet Rabbi Matondo’s Wales side. The other nations in the group are Italy and Switzerland.

Austria and Schalke’s Alessandro Schöpf, will in the coming weeks focus more and more on the Netherlands and Ukraine, who play with former Schalke player Yevhen Konoplyanka. In addition, a nation will come through the play-offs. Also hoping for an appearance at the EUROS is Benito Raman. The striker has so far played a match for Belgium, who will meet Denmark, Finland and Russia in Group B.

Also there is a chance that Matija Nastasic will be making an appearance. The Serb is in the play-offs and has a chance to qualify for the tournament. In order to do this the Schalke defender’s side must beat Norway on March 26th 2020 and then beat the winner of the match between Scotland and Israel. Should Serbia reach the play-off final, Nastasic and Co would have the right to play at home. In case the team successfully qualify, Schalke’s number 5 would be in Group D with England, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
