Salif Sané draws 1-1 with Brazil – no winner between Schubert and Miranda

Three S04 players were in international action on Thursday evening (10/10), while Rabbi Matondo and Levent Mercan remained on the bench for their respective sides.

Decent result for Sané

Senegal drew 1-1 with Brazil in a friendly held in Singapore. Salif Sané played the full 90 minutes for the Africa Cup of Nations runners-up and saw his side equalise from the spot, with Famara Diedhiou leveling the game after Roberto Firmino had given the South Americans the lead after just nine minutes.

Matondo only on the bench

Rabbi Matondo didn’t get on the pitch for Wales’ 1-1 draw in Slovakia. The winger remained an unused substitute, as Kieffer Moore gave the Welsh an early lead, before Juraj Kucka levelled things after 53 minutes.

Wales now have seven points from their five group games, while Slovakia remain above their opponents in the group with ten points, although they have played a game more. Croatia top the group with 13 points. The World Cup runners-up travel to Wales on Sunday (13/10, 20:45 CEST).

Draw between Schubert and Miranda

A repeat of the U21 European Championship final saw Germany and Spain draw 1-1 in Cordoba. Two Royal Blues faced off in the friendly: Goalkeeper Markus Schubert started for the Germans, while left back Juan Miranda came on for Spain in the 73rd minute. Manu Garcia’s powerful strike gave the hosts the lead after ten minutes, before Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck equalised just before the break.

Schubert and Miranda will both be back in U21 Euro qualifier action on Tuesday (15/10). Germany travel to face Bosnia-Herzegovina (18:00 CEST), while Spain are away at Montenegro (18:45 CEST).

Mercan doesn’t feature for U20s

Levent Mercan failed to make his debut for Germany U20s. The midfielder, who has previously played for the U19s, didn’t come on in the 4-3 defeat to Poland in Norderstedt.

His next chance to play will come on Sunday (13/10) as Manuel Baum’s side will face Switzerland at 15:00 CEST in Biel.
