Salif Sané and Senegal reach the quarterfinals

Dreams of AFCON glory live on for Salif Sané, whose Senegal side booked their place in the quarterfinals with a 1-0 victory over underdogs Uganda on Friday night.

Despite returning to the squad for his country’s Round of 16 tie in Cairo, Salif Sané did not feature for Senegal. The Schalke man sustained a minor ankle injury in Senegal’s opening game against Tanzania on June 23. It was Champions League winner Sadio Mané of Liverpool who scored the winning goal after quarter of an hour. In the 61st minute, the forward missed the chance to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

On Wednesday July 10, Sané and Co. come up against the tournament’s surprise package Benin, who knocked out Morocco, one of the favourites, on penalties in the last 16.
