Suat Serdar, the second Royal-Blue in Stefan Kuntz’s squad, started on the bench but came on in the 79th minute to replace Mahmoud Dahoud.

The man of the evening was Augsburg’s Marco Richter, who scored in the 27th minute to make it 1-0 and then in the 52nd minute to double the German’s lead. SC Freiburg’s Luca Waldschmidt scored the third goal for the Germany U21s.

Alexander Nübel made some good saves before the break when the score was still 1-0. He parried a Robert Skov post onto the post and also defused some dangerous situations with some strong saves.

However, in the 73rd minute, Nübel was beaten from the penalty spot. Skov placed his penalty into the right corner after Timo Baumgartl had handled the ball in the box.

In the second group stage game, the German youngsters will take on Serbia on Thursday (21:00 CEST), who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Austria in their opening game.
