Moussa Sylla makes substitute appearance in 3-0 World Cup qualifier win with Mali
The Malian national team came out on top 3-0 against Comoros in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday (4/9). Moussa Sylla was brought on in the 84th minute, while Ibrahima Cissé was an unused substitute in the game.
Fenerbahçe winger Dorgeles Nene opened the scoring in Berkane in the 28th minute, followed by successful attempts from Kamory Doumbia (70’, Stade Brest) and Lassana Coulibaly (76’, US Lecce).
After claiming all three points on the night, Mali have risen above Comoros in qualifying Group I and sit third in the table with 12 points. Next up for the Schalke duo is a matchup against Ghana, who lead the group with 16 points. Kick-off is scheduled for Monday (8/9) at 21:00 CEST in Accra. Mali’s final pair of qualifying games will follow in October, as they face Chad away from home before hosting Madagascar.
The nine African group winners will qualify automatically for the FIFA World Cup 2026, while the four best runners-up will enter a knock-out round in November to determine which African side will take part in a World Cup inter-confederation play-off tournament in March 2026, for which two further teams can qualify.
