Tom Krauß features against England – Sepp van den Berg and Maya Yoshida keep clean sheets

The final round of international games on Tuesday (27/9) saw four Schalke players involved. Tom Krauß, Sepp van den Berg and Maya Yoshida all played, whilst Alex Král was an unused substitute for Czech Republic in their defeat to Switzerland.

Germany U21s defeated in England

After losing 1-0 to France last Friday (23/9), Germany lost their second friendly of this international break. Antonio Di Salvo’s side were beaten 3-1 in England. Wolfsburg man Felix Nmecha put them 1-0 up after 35 minutes, however goals from Folarin Balogun (42’), Conor Gallagher (47’) and Cole Palmer (90’) got the win for the hosts in Sheffield. Tom Krauß came on in the 66th minute.

Král relegated with Czech Republic

Czech Republic also suffered defeated in the Nations League, losing 2-1 to Switzerland in St. Gallen. Remo Freuler (29’) and former S04 attacker Breel Embolo (30’) put them 2-0 up in quick time, before Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick got one back on the stroke of half time. Tomas Soucek had the chance to level proceedings from the spot after around an hour, but was denied by Gladbach’s Yann Sommer (62’). Czech Republic were relegated to League B of the Nations League after this defeat. Alex Král didn’t feature last night in their final group game.

No goals in van den Berg and Yoshida’s games

The other two games involving Schalker both ended goalless. Sepp van den Berg and Netherlands U21s drew 0-0 against Romania in a friendly, while Maya Yoshida’s Japan and Ecuador played out the same scoreline in Düsseldorf. Van den Berg played the full 90 minutes, Yoshida only came on in the 84th minute.
