90 minutes for Henning Matriciani in U21 EURO dress rehearsal

The Germany U21s played out a successful dress rehearsal on Friday (16/06), as they prepare to kick off their European Championship campaign next week. The DFB-Junioren won 3-1 against Switzerland U21s in a 120-minute friendly behind closed doors in Imst, Austria. Henning Matriciani got 90 minutes under his belt, while Tom Krauß featured for an hour.

The game, which was made up of four 30-minute quarters, saw Switzerland take an early lead through Dan Ndoye (5’). Kevin Schade from Premier League side Brentford levelled the scores before the end of the first quarter, with Hertha BSC’s Jessic Ngankam turning the game around in the 88th minute. Mainz youngster Nelson Weiper wrapped up the 3-1 win for Germany after 104 minutes.

Matriciani was named in the starting XI and played each of the first two quarters before coming off, but then was brought back on for the final half hour. Krauß was introduced at the halfway stage.

The Germany U21s will head to Georgia on Sunday (18/06) as they get ready to start the tournament. Antonio di Salvo’s team will face Israel, Czech Republic and England in the group stage.

Uronen helps Finland beat Slovenia

Jere Uronen, who is still officially a Royal Blue until the end of the month, celebrated a European qualifying victory with Finland on Friday. The left-back was subbed on in the 70th minute in a 2-0 win over Slovenia. The goals in Helsinki were scored by Joel Pohjanpalo of Venezia FC (13’) and FC Groningen’s Oliver Antman (64’).

The next points up for grabs on the road to EURO 2024 in Germany are available on Tuesday (19/06), when Finland host San Marino.

Karaman not named in matchday squad

There was no place in the Turkey side for Kenan Karaman in their 3-2 European qualifying win over Latvia. His next chance to feature will be on Tuesday (19/06), when Stefan Kuntz’s team welcome Wales to Tekkeköy from 20:45 CEST.
