DFB U21s get ticket to Euros

The Germany U21s last night confirmed qualification for the 2019 U21 European Championships in Italy and San Marino as Stefan Kuntz’s team beat Norway U21s 2-1 in Ingolstadt. The defending champions have now cemented their position at the top of the table in Group 5 and cannot be displaced.

The Schalke duo had a share in the success against the Scandinavian team. Cedric Teuchert played from the start, played 72 minutes and scored in the 21st minute to put his team 1-0. This was his eighth goal for the U21s. Freiburg’s Luca Waldschmidt then doubled the lead. Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel was flawless throughout the game but had no chance when Birk Risa’s deflected shot made it 2-1. Nübel made a sensational save in the 65th minute to stop the Norwegians from equalising. Suat Serdar, who was also called up to the squad by Kuntz had to miss out due to a slight niggle in a tendon.

Burgstaller and Schöpf help Austria to victory against Northern Ireland

Guido Burgstaller and Alessandro Schöpf were also rewarded with victories yesterday evening. West Ham United striker Marko Arnautović scored the only goal of the game in the 71st minute. Northern Ireland’s Will Grigg had the best chance for the Northern Irish but was unable to convert and hit the post in the 85th minute.

Burgstaller started the game and played 83 minutes whilst Schöpf came on with 15 minutes to go. Austria are currently placed in second of Group 3 with three points after two games. Table leaders Bosnia and Herzegovina have six points whilst Northern Ireland are yet to pick up a point.
