Weston McKennie on target again as USA reach Gold Cup final

The USMNT have taken the next step on their way to defending their Gold Cup title. Weston McKennie played his part once again, as the US side overcame Jamaica with a 3-1 victory on Thursday (04/07). The Royal Blue had scored the only goal of the game in the previous game, as Gregg Berhalter’s side beat Curacao 1-0 in the quarter final.

McKennie’s ninth-minute goal was the opener in a long game of football. The reason: just over 15 minutes after kick off, play was suspended for around 87 minutes due to a strong storm.

Despite the unplanned break, the US team stuck to their game plan. Christian Pulisic doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, before scoring again just 180 seconds before the end of regular time. Shamar Nicholson pulled one back for Jamaica in the 69th minute. McKennie played the whole game.

In the final of the Gold Cup – the continental tournament for North and Central America as well as the Caribbean countries – the USA will face record winners Mexico on Monday (08/07).
