A win, a draw and a defeat for Schalke’s internationals

Sebastian Rudy played around half an hour in Germany’s comfortable win over Russia on Thursday (15/11). Alessandro Schöpf and Weston McKennie, however, were unable to taste success with their national teams. Schalke04.de has summarised the three’s matches.

Comfortable win for Germany – Sebastian Rudy brought on

Sebastian Rudy was part of the Germany side that easily defeated Russia 3-0 in a friendly. Former Schalke man Leroy Sané opened the scoring in the eight minute, before Bayern pair Niklas Süle (25’) and Serge Gnabry (40’) added goals before the break. Sebastian Rudy came on for Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz in the 65th minute.

Joachim Löw’s team’s next game is on Monday against the Netherlands, with the game taking place in the VELTINS-Arena at 20:45 (CET). Germany have to defeat the Dutch in order to avoid relegation from League A in the Nations League, although if the Netherlands defeat France (16/11, 20:45 CET) their fate will already be confirmed.

Austria and Alessandro Schöpf miss out on promotion

Austria’s final chance of gaining promotion into League A has gone after they only drew 0-0 at home with Bosnia & Herzegovina. Alessandro Schöpf started the game, making way for Augsburg’s Michael Gregoritsch after 67 minutes. Guido Burgstaller, who was also called up, missed out on the match due to a groin problem.

Austria are currently sitting in third place in Group 3 of League B with four points. Table-topping Bosnia & Herzegovina, who have accrued ten points, cannot be caught. Austria’s next game against bottom-placed side Northern Ireland (18/11, 18:00 CET), will have no effect on the table as Northern Ireland are without a point and are therefore already relegated.

Defeat for Weston McKennie and USA in Wembley

Weston McKennie was part of Wayne Rooney’s final appearance in an England shirt last night, although the game didn’t go well for McKennie and his compatriots. USA lost 3-0 to the “Three Lions”, with Weston playing 76 minutes before being replaced by Sebastian Lletget.

The next international fixture for the US is next Tuesday (20/11) against Italy. The game will take place in Genk (20:45 CET).
