World Cup qualifers: Victor Pálsson to face Darko Churlinov

Five Royal Blues will be away with their national sides during the upcoming international break. One World Cup qualifier in Reykjavik will even see two Schalke teammates face off.

Victor Pálsson (Iceland) and Darko Churlinov (North Macedonia) will each play three World Cup qualifiers during the upcoming break. The two Schalke teammates will face off on Sunday (5/9) in Reykjavik. Iceland will then play Romania on Thursday (2/9) and Germany on Wednesday (8/9) in their final Group J fixtures, with both taking place in Reykjavik. North Macedonia will come up against Armenia on Thursday (2/9) before facing Romania next Wednesday (8/9). Both matches will take place in Skopje.

Japan will also play two World Cup qualifiers. Ko Itakura has been called up to the Samurai Blues, who will face Oman on Thursday (2/9) in Osaka before playing China on Tuesday (7/9) in Doha.

Thiaw and Aydin called up to Germany youth sides

Malick Thiaw has been called up to the Germany U21s, who will play two away games as part of the qualifiers to the U21 EUROs. The reigning European champions will come up against San Marino U21s in Serravalle on Thursday (2/9) before facing Latvia U21s in Riga on Tuesday (7/9).

Mehmet Can Aydin has also been called up to the Germany U20s, who will play two friendlies during the break. The team will come up against Czech Republic on Thursday (2/9) before facing Norway in Zwickau on Monday (6/9).
