World Cup Qualifiers: No minutes for Alessandro Schöpf or Frederik Rönnow

Alessandro Schöpf and Frederik Rönnow began their World Cup qualifying campaign on Thursday evening, but neither S04 player featured for their country. Schöpf’s Austria drew 2-2 in Scotland, while Rönnow and Denmark beat Israel 2-0 in Tel Aviv.

Following a relatively uneventful first half, Austria came from behind to draw in a thrilling second half in Glasgow. VfB Stuttgart’s Saša Kalajdžić scored a brace (55’, 80’), with Grant Hanley of Norwich City and John McGinn netting for the hosts in the 71st and 85th minutes respectively.

Austria coach Franco Foda only made one change in the clash at Hampden Park as Alessandro Schöpf remained an unused substitute.

Meanwhile in Israel, Frederik Rönnow also remained on the bench for 90 minutes as Kasper Schmeichel of Leicester City kept a clean sheet for Denmark. FC Barcelona’s Martin Braithwaite opened the scoring (13’), before FC Copenhagen’s Jonas Wind sealed the win with his 67th minute strike.
