Maya Yoshida defeats Weston McKennie in his 120th game for Japan

Japan and Maya Yoshida won a friendly against USA on Friday (23/9). The Asian side defeated their opponents 2-0, exactly two months ahead of their first group game at the World Cup against Germany.

This was Yoshida’s 120th cap for his country and his first as an FC Schalke 04 player. The centre-back played the full 90 minutes in Düsseldorf. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada scored the first goal, curling one into the back of the net in the 24th minute. A second was added by Brighton & Hove Albion’s Kaoru Mitoma two minutes before the end of the game.

Former Schalke man Weston McKennie played 67 minutes for the US. Japan’s next game is on Tuesday (27/9) against Ecuador at 13:55 CEST.
