Mauro Zalazar features for 90 minutes in final match at South American U-20 Championship
Mauro Zalazar and Uruguay lost 3-1 against Colombia in their final match at the South American U-20 Championship on Sunday (16/2). After finishing top of their group by going unbeaten during the group stage, the ‘Celeste’ then failed to win any of their matches in the tournament’s final round.
Zalazar started and featured for the full 90 minutes against Colombia. After conceding early on through Neiser Villarreal (6’), the Celeste managed to draw level in the 13th minute thanks to Alejandro Severo’s strike. Just 120 seconds later, Kener Gonzalez would restore Colombia’s lead, before Carlos Eduardo Sarabia Barrios scored a third just before half-time (39’).
Zalazar started eight of nine matches at the tournament, only missing the team’s final group stage game as they had already qualified to advance to the next stage. The tournament was won by Brazil U20s.
