Amine Harit: I’ve not finished yet

Contract extended! Amine Harit has agreed to extend his deal with FC Schalke 04 until 30th June 2024. In an interview, the Moroccan international spoke about his decision, his future goals, and the reasons for his strong performances this season, for which he thanked coach David Wagner and his coaching team for having such faith in him.

Amine Harit

Amine, you’ve extended your contract. How did you come to this decision?

I feel so comfortable and at home here at Schalke, and I know that I’m playing for one of the biggest clubs in Germany. As a team we’ve played really well so far this season, and we’re having fun every minute we’re out there on the pitch so it was a no-brainer for me – I wanted to stay here longer. I’m so thankful to the team for sticking by me through the tough times and for continuing to believe in me. I want to repay their faith now.

What are your goals for the coming weeks and months?

The team and I want to get as many points we can. Two years ago we qualified for the Champions League and so we had the opportunity to play against the very best in Europe. My target is to get back to playing the Champions League or Europa League with Schalke. We’re on the right track to do that at the minute, but it’s not over yet.

I’m so thankful to the team for sticking by me through the tough times and for continuing to believe in me.

You’ve played incredibly well so far this season. Do you think you could play even better?

I’m only 22 years old so I don’t think I’m at the end of my development just yet. My motto is to get better and better every day and so I do everything in service of that. But it’s not just about me as an individual, it’s about the team, and I’m thankful to have such quality teammates.

What role have David Wagner and his staff played in your development?

The coach has had faith in me from day one and he explained to me my role in his plans and how I can this team going forward. It really gave me a lot of self-belief over the summer. Without David Wagner, his staff, all the staff at the club in fact, and my teammates, I would never have taken such positive steps in my development.
