Sead Kolasinac: A really special day for me
Sead Kolasinac made 141 first-team appearances for FC Schalke 04 during his time at the club. On Saturday (8/8), the Bosnia international returned to his old home at the VELTINS-Arena as part of the visiting team from Atalanta. In an interview after the game, schalke04.de spoke to the defender about being back in Gelsenkirchen.
Sead, nice to see you again, even if it is in another club’s colours! What was it like for you to face Schalke?
I was really excited to get to play at the VELTINS-Arena again. Even though I’m no longer part of the Royal Blues, I still consider myself a Schalker! That’s why it was a really special day for me.
You were brought on around the hour-mark and your name rang out around the stadium. Did that give you goosebumps in that moment?
Definitely! It was an incredible moment, one that I will enjoy looking back on. I would like to also say thank you to all the fans for the fantastic welcome they gave me.
How excited were you for this game? Had you been in touch with Edin Džeko and Nikola Katic, both teammates of yours from the national team?
I could feel the excitement rising over the last few days. I spoke several times with Edin and Nikola and they texted that they were feeling the same way. But they weren’t the only Royal Blues that I was in touch with in the lead-up to the game.
Who else did you speak to?
I spoke with Miron Muslic on the day before the game [Ed. note: Kolasinac gifted the coach an Atalanta shirt after the final whistle]. I’m also still in touch with Timo Becker, one of my former teammates at Schalke. I was excited to see him and few other lads from the staff again.
What do you hope FC Schalke 04 will achieve this season?
That the team achieve the goals they have set for themselves. I will be watching and cheering along from Italy!
