Simon Terodde: You have to be hungry until the final whistle as a striker

Striker Simon Terodde made it 3-0 in injury time on Saturday in the win over 1. FC Heidenheim. It was already his 22nd goal this season. The 34-year-old spoke to schalke04.de about his goal, the celebrations after it and the support from the fans.

Simon Terodde

Simon, the VELTINS-Arena was bouncing after the 3-0 over 1. FC Heidenheim last weekend. How was the game for you?
Playing in front of that crowd, winning the game and even scoring at the end was a fantastic experience for me. Celebrating with my teammates in front of the Nordkurve after my goal was amazing.

A lot of fans were just waiting for the final whistle to blow in the sixth minute of added time, but you were on your toes to get the third goal.
Blendi played a great ball and I was just in a good position to head home. You have to be hungry until the final whistle as a striker!

Those kinds of moments just give you goosebumps.

Right after the final whistle, Mike Büskens summoned the team to the centre circle. What did you speak about before you went to thank the fans for their support?
Buyo told us that it was a moment we should just simply enjoy. Celebrating together with the Nordkurve is an unbelievable feeling. The fans really contributed to the win again. They got behind us during the difficult parts of the match and pushed us on, which is just what you want as a footballer. The game had already begun brilliantly with the tifo at kick off. Those kinds of moments just give you goosebumps.

A fourth straight win will give us some real confidence going into the final five games of the season. How will the team approach the upcoming game in Darmstadt?
We’re away at a strong opponent, but we will be prepared and will try to use the momentum we’ve built up over the past few weeks. Not everything has been perfect, though. We had a few periods against Heidenheim where things didn’t go so well. Martin Fraisl had to save us on a few occasions. We’ve always got the quality up front to score a goal. The table looked a whole lot different a few weeks ago. We’ve now put ourselves in a good position, so we have to carry on working hard and build on our recent results.
