Five Royal Blues called up for first international break of 2024

The first international break of 2024 starts this week. Two Schalke players – Darko Churlinov and Blendi Idrizi – have been included in their countries’ senior squads. Ibrahima Cissé has been called up for Mali U23s, who are preparing for the Olympic Games, while Yusuf Kabadayi and Keke Topp are in the Germany U20 squad.

Five impressive performances at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations have seen Ibrahima Cissé named in the Team of the Tournament. The centre-back and Mali finished in third place in Morocco, enough to earn them a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Ibrahima Cissé qualifies for 2024 Olympics after bronze medal at U23 AFCON

Ibrahime Cissé and Mali celebrated a third-place finish at the U23 AFCON on Friday (7/7). The S04 centre-back featured for the full match as Mali won 4-3 on penalties (0-0 a.e.t.) and successfully qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Ibrahima Cissé misses out on U23 AFCON final

Ibrahima Cissé and the Malia national team narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations. The team including the FC Schalke 04 centre-back lost 4-3 on penalties to tournament hosts Morocco in the semi-final on Tuesday 4th July. The score was 1-1 after regular time and ended 2-2 after extra time.

Ibrahima Cissé and Mali reach the semi-finals of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations

Schalke’s number 22 qualified for the semi-finals of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations with Mali on Saturday (1/7). The defender’s side won 2-0 in their final group game against Niger. Their goals were scored by Mamadou Sangaré (49’) and Cheickna Doumbia (90’).

Ibrahima Cissé and Mali off to a winning start at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations

Mali, with Schalke defender Ibrahima Cissé in their ranks, enjoyed a successful start to their U23 Africa Cup of Nations campaign. They beat Gabon 3-1 in their first group game on Sunday (25/6).

Henning Matriciani and Tom Krauß named in final Germany U21s squad for European Championship

Henning Matriciani and Tom Krauß have been named in the final Germany U21s squad for the upcoming tournament in Romania and Georgia, to be held between 21st June and 8th July. Sepp van den Berg will also be involved in the tournament with the Netherlands. Elsewhere, Ibrahima Cissé will be in action with Mali in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations. Kenan Karaman, Jere Uronen, Alex Král and Rodrigo Zalazar are all also on international duty.
