No points for the Royal Blues: In Matchday 23's Topspiel, RB Leipzig came away from the VELTINS-Arena with a 5-0 win. Marcel Sabitzer put the second placed team in front after less than a minute, before Timo Werner (61'), Marcel Halstenberg (68'), Angelino (81') and Emil Forsberg (89') made up the rest of the goals for Leipzig in the second half.

RB Leipzig: Lurking in second

After four competitive games without a win, RB Leipzig put the bad run behind them with a 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen last weekend. The small dip in form after the winter break may have cost them first place, but they continue to lurk just one point behind industry leaders Bayern München – remaining very-much in contention for the first title in the club’s short history.

Rabbi Matondo: An unbelievable feeling

David Wagner was proud of his side after the win in Leipzig, while Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann was frustrated with his team’s poor decision making. Rabbi Matondo was especially happy after scoring his first ever Bundesliga goal. Amine Harit also spoke to schalke04.de after he scored for the third game in a row too.

Huub Stevens: I’m disappointed, but I saw some positives

On his comeback as Schalke head coach, Huub Stevens was satisfied with his team’s performance. Because of this, it was even more disappointing that his side lost 1-0 to RB Leipzig on Saturday (16/3). Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick explained how the Knappen played well and how his side had luck on their side today. schalke04.de has summarised the coaches’ reactions as well as those from Sebastian Rudy and Alexander Nübel.

Huub Stevens: We will need to show the values that define Schalke

Huub Stevens and Mike Büskens will be on the bench for Saturday’s home game against RB Leipzig (16/03, 15:30 CET). The duo will coach the side for the rest of the season after Domenico Tedesco’s departure. The two will be supported by Matthias Kreutzer, a new team analyst and assistant coach, and Gerald Asamoah, who will be the team’s new team manager.

Not pretty and no icing on the cake, but an important point

RB Leipzig had already scored twelve goals at home this season before facing FC Schalke 04 on Sunday. As well as this, the memories of last season were fresh in the memory as the Royal Blues lost 3-1 in the same ground in January. “It was very stop-start. We wanted to play football. The result was better than last season,” said Domenico Tedesco, whose team took a point back to Gelsenkirchen this time round.
