Huub Stevens: We will need to show the values that define Schalke

Huub Stevens and Mike Büskens will be on the bench for Saturday’s home game against RB Leipzig (16/03, 15:30 CET). The duo will coach the side for the rest of the season after Domenico Tedesco’s departure. The two will be supported by Matthias Kreutzer, a new team analyst and assistant coach, and Gerald Asamoah, who will be the team’s new team manager.

Not pretty and no icing on the cake, but an important point

RB Leipzig had already scored twelve goals at home this season before facing FC Schalke 04 on Sunday. As well as this, the memories of last season were fresh in the memory as the Royal Blues lost 3-1 in the same ground in January. “It was very stop-start. We wanted to play football. The result was better than last season,” said Domenico Tedesco, whose team took a point back to Gelsenkirchen this time round.

Domenico Tedesco: Few, but decent chances

Domenico Tedesco talked about his team executing his game plan well at the post-match press conference, while his opposite number Ralf Rangnick spoke of a fair draw. We also gathered the thoughts of Benjamin Stambouli and Weston McKennie in the mixed zone at the Red Bull Arena following Sunday’s 0-0 draw.

A busy week of football culminated in a 0-0 draw at RB Leipzig on Sunday afternoon. There was little goal-mouth action in a battling encounter, although the best chances fell to Royal Blues Breel Embolo and Weston McKennie.

Naldo and Omar Mascarell return for the Leipzig game

FC Schalke 04 will face RB Leipzig on Sunday (28/10/18 15:30 CET), with both teams having played in Europe midweek. Schalke had travelled to Istanbul and drew 0-0 with Galatasaray whilst Leipzig beat Celtic 2-0 at home.

Max Meyer: We hoped for more

Max Meyer covered a staggering 12.31 kilometres on Saturday; the most distance of all the players on the pitch, and not for the first time this season. However, his efforts were unrewarded as he and his teammates suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Leipzig.

Team won’t be derailed by defeat

After thirteen games without defeat – eleven of which were in the Bundesliga – the Knappen finally fell short in Leipzig. “It was a fair result”, said Christian Heidel before adding: “But if anyone thought we were going to go unbeaten for the rest of the season, they need a reality check.”

Naldo: Learn from our mistakes

After the 3-1 loss in Leipzig, Schalke captain Ralf Fährmann and Naldo spoke to the two Knappen and noted their thoughts.

Domenico Tedesco: Lost the ball too often

After a disappointing defeat in Leipzig, Domenico Tedesco and Ralph Hasenhüttl gave their thoughts on their side's first games of 2018.

3-1 loss in Leipzig – Defeat to start 2018

After 13 games without defeat, FC Schalke 04’s bubble finally burst in Leipzig this evening. In their first game of 2018, Schalke lost 3-1 to RB Leipzig following goals from Naby Keita, Timo Werner and Bruma, although Naldo equalised with his fourth of the season.

Domenico Tedesco: Lots of options for Saturday’s XI

Domenico Tedesco was full of praise for his team’s efforts in the short preparation time for the second half of the season. “The lads have been focused are working hard,” says the head coach. “All the lads can barely wait for the league to return.” The Knappen’s opening fixture will see the team face RB Leipzig on Saturday (13th January) at 18:30 CET.
