Janik Bachmann joins Royal Blues

Experienced 2. Bundesliga operator Janik Bachmann has moved to FC Schalke 04. The midfielder has signed a contract with the Knappen valid until 30th June 2027 following a year-long stint at Hansa Rostock.

“Janik’s strength in the tackle and willingness to put in the hard yards make him stand out. He’s also a player who leads from the front and brings a mentality to the table that gives the team stability,” stated Marc Wilmots on behalf of the club’s sporting management. “He’s very versatile and can be deployed anywhere in central midfield.”

Bachmann is looking forward to playing for the Royal Blues: “In our talks, Ben Manga and Marc Wilmots explained their vision, which was impressive and convinced me to join. I’m itching to get started and play in front of the exceptional fans at the VELTINS-ARENA in a few weeks’ time.”

Bachmann first plied his trade at SV Germania Babenhausen. After playing for Eintracht Frankfurt and SV Darmstadt’s youth sides, the midfielder made the step-up in the 2014/15 campaign as he was named in the Lilies’ first-team squad. Bachmann then had spells at Hannover 96’s U23 side (2015-17), Chemnitzer FC (2017-18), Würzburger Kickers (2018-19), and 1. FC Kaiserslautern (2019-21) before making the switch to SV Sandhausen in January 2021. Bachmann made 77 appearances in two and a half years at the club, bagging ten goals.

Bachmann played 21 times for Hansa Rostock last season. In total, Bachmann, who stands at 6’ 4’’ tall, has made a combined 192 appearances in the second and third tiers of German football (98 in the 2. Bundesliga, 94 in the 3. Liga). The 28-year-old has also been in action nine times in the DFB-Pokal.
