Bernard Tekpetey joins Fortuna Düsseldorf on two-year loan

Schalke player Bernard Tekpetey will head to Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan for the next two seasons until 30th June 2021. In June of this year, S04 activated a buy-back clause to bring the 21 year old back to the club from newly-promoted SC Paderborn 07.

“Last season, Bernard made a lot of progress on the pitch,” said sporting director Jochen Schneider. “We are confident that he will continue this development in the coming years and wish him all the best in Fortuna colours.”

Tekpetey joined SC Paderborn 07 in the 2. Bundesliga last summer, and went on to score ten goals and make six assists in 32 appearances, playing a part in the club’s promotion to the top flight. The 21 year old first joined Schalke U23 squad in February 2016 from the UniStar Soccer Academy in his native Ghana.

In the summer of 2016, Tekpetey was promoted into the first-team squad and made two appearances in the Bundesliga, in addition to one Europa League outing. During his time on loan with Austrian top-flight side SCR Altach in the 2017/18 season, Tekpetey made ten league appearances and scored one goal.
