Can Bozdogan completes permanent move to FC Utrecht

Can Bozdogan has completed a move to FC Utrecht. The 22-year-old was on loan at the Eredivisie club last season, and has now made the move permanent.

“Our discussions with Can were very open and honest, right from the start. He came to us and said that he would like to stay in Utrecht and not return to Gelsenkirchen,” said Peter Knäbel, board member responsible for sport. “We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with Utrecht and that we will be able to further benefit financially if his positive development continues.”

Bozdogan came up through the ranks of the 1. FC Köln academy, before joining the S04 U19s in 2019. Just over a year later, the midfielder made his professional debut for the Royal Blues. He was then loaned out to Besiktas for the 2021/22 season. Bozdogan made 23 appearances in the Turkish Süper Lig as well as playing four games in the Champions League for the club. He scored one goal in 24 league matches for Utrecht in 2022/23, in addition to providing six assists.
