Can Bozdogan signs contract extension to 2024

Can Bozdogan’s contract with the Royal Blues was set to run out in 2022, but the midfielder has now signed an extension to 2024; it’s a good sign for the future of the club.

Can Bozdogan

“Can Bozdogan is one of the most talented midfielders in the Bundesliga. It’s a great sign for the whole club that he’s decided to extend his contract at FC Schalke 04 without hesitation,” says Jochen Schneider, Head of Sport and Communication. “He’s already an important part of our squad.”

It was an easy decision to extend his contract for the Germany U20s national player: “Schalke have given me the opportunity to take the step up from youth football to the Bundesliga. I also need to thank the academy for that. The U19s helped me develop the skills I needed to manage the move up to the first team. I’ll do everything to make sure that we bring joy back for the fans and that we’re successful on the pitch.”

Head coach Manuel Baum is also delighted with the news. “I knew Can before joining Schalke from my time with the youth sides at the DFB. He has great technical ability, he reads the game well and he’s always looking to drive the team forward. The important thing now is that he continues on this path with hard work and motivation.”

Can Bozdogan joined the Royal Blues from 1. FC Köln in the summer of 2019. He made 13 appearances for the U19s as captain (including three goals and three assists) under head coach Norbert Elgert before the season was stopped due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Bozdogan made his Bundesliga debut on matchday 31 last season in a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. He has made four Bundesliga appearances for the first team to date.
