Plans for Christmas: How the players are going to spend the holidays

Good food, a Christmas tradition here or there, but above all the opportunity to see friends and family once again and to spend time with their nearest and dearest. schalke04.de spoke with Danny Latza, Tom Krauß, Dominick Drexler, Jordan Larsson and Justin Heekeren about their plans for the holidays.

Danny Latza:

I’ll spend Christmas Eve with my family, so my wife and our two children, just within our four walls. It will definitely be exciting, especially for the kids. On Christmas Day, we will then visit my sister-in-law. There, the house will be full because my wife’s whole family will be there. My parents will then visit us on 26th December. They will be beautiful days, especially because there will be good food: Red cabbage, potato dumplings, turkey – for me that’s what Christmas is about. And also the time that I can spend with those closest to me. To just sit in peace for a bit and chat with one another, because unfortunately that doesn’t happen enough in everyday life.

Tom Krauß:

I am going to spend the holidays in Leipzig. I am looking forward to it a lot because I haven’t visited my hometown in several months and will finally see my family again. As usual, there will be a goose on the table, which is a tradition in the Krauß household. Fortunately, I have got all of my presents together, some of them were really at the last minute. I am always very creative (grins). I can’t give away what I got for my parents and my girlfriend at this point, and they will be handed out on Christmas Eve.

Dominick Drexler:

For us, there is the tradition on Christmas Eve that we all go to church together. When we get back home then we eat raclette – which we have done for many years. And for dessert there is tiramisu, which is also a tradition for us. I am looking forward to it a lot. Finally, when everyone is full then we open presents.

Jordan Larsson:

I will be spending the holidays at home in Sweden. For us there are different Christmas traditions. Good food is obviously a key part of Christmas Eve: Meatballs, for example. After that, we all will watch a Disney film together, before we open presents. Alongside time with the family, I will also be able to see some friends again for the first time in a while.

Justin Heekeren:

As probably almost everyone does, I will be spending Christmas together with my family. I always enjoy this time a lot and will also use the days without football to meet with some friends from back home. There are not really any special traditions in my family for the holidays. We just sit together comfortably, enjoy good food and talk about most varied things. Because there are lots of Schalke fans in my family, we will definitely also talk a bit about about FC Schalke 04 (grins).
