Darko Churlinov returns to FC Schalke 04
FC Schalke 04 have signed Darko Churlinov on loan from Burnley until the end of the 2023/24 season. The Royal Blues have also agreed a buy option to secure the creative and versatile attacker on a long-term basis.
Sporting director Marc Wilmots commented: “Darko is exactly the kind of player we were looking to bring in during a difficult winter transfer period. He’s fearless, likes to take players on and will make us more unpredictable as a side. I’ve never before seen a player so motivated and up for a challenge as he is now. He will captivate both the team and the fans. I’m sure of that after speaking personally to Darko and because of all the information we gathered on him.”

“His versatility and creativity will provide us with new options. I spoke a lot with Burnley’s coach Vincent Kompany about Darko’s fitness levels. He confirmed that Darko has fully trained with the team over the last three months and has played for the reserves too. Our tests confirmed these positives,” added head coach Karel Geraerts.
Churlinov, who spent the 2021/22 season on loan at S04, said: “I’m pleased to be back auf Schalke, I’ve always stayed in touch with the club and the fans. I want now to pay back the club for their faith in me – preferably with goals, assists, and, most of all, with wins.”
Darko Churlinov moved from his native North Macedonia to Hansa Rostock’s academy in 2015. After spells with 1. FC Magdeburg and 1. FC Köln, he signed for VfB Stuttgart in January 2020. He joined FC Schalke 04 on loan from the Swabians for the 2021/22 season, scoring two goals and assisting six in 23 competitive games as the Knappen secured promotion back to the Bundesliga. Following that campaign, Churlinov signed for Burnley and won promotion to the Premier League with them last season. The 23-year-old attacker has scored four goals in 19 caps for North Macedonia.
