Domenico Tedesco extends Schalke contract until 2022

2018/19 Bundesliga runners-up Schalke have started the new season with a Royal Blue-orientated piece of news. FC Schalke 04 have reached an agreement for a contract extension with Domenico Tedesco, who has increased the length of the current deal to run until June 30th 2022. The previous deal expired on June 30th 2019.

“Continuity is an important fundamental for the goals we have set ourselves in the coming years. Particularly when it comes to the manager, who from a sporting perspective is the most important man at the football club for me,” explained sporting director Christian Heidel. “As a result we are delighted to have found in Domenico Tedesco and footballing tutor who in addition to being highly skilled and socially aware, is not just bold, innovative and active in communication, is someone who has taken on board and grasped everything that Schalke is about in a short space of time.

Head coach Domenico Tedesco confirmed: „I have always said that I feel completely at home here. I love working with this team, it’s so much fun because they are always ready to take the next step so that we can develop ourselves on a sporting level,” said the 32-year-old. “The same goes for the work with the board, the support from the committee and the employees of the club. They all motivate us a lot, to play for the fans, who support this club and the team so brilliantly. I am therefore really looking forward to being part of the Royal Blue family for the coming years.”

Domenico Tedesco took over the Royal Blues before last season, and the Schwabian led Schalke to a runners’ up spot in the Bundesliga and the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal. The 32-year-old started his coaching career in Stuttgart in the VfB Stuttgart youth team, coaching the under-17s from 2013 to 2015, before moving to Hoffenheim. He moved to Bundesliga 2 side FC Erzgebirge Aue for the Rückrunde of 2017/18, where he helped the club stave off relegation following a strong end to the season.
