Dong-gyeong Lee leaves FC Schalke 04

Schalke 04 have agreed to dissolve Dong-gyeong Lee’s contract with the club, which was set to run until the end of the year. Both parties have agreed to keep the details of the agreement undisclosed. The South Korean will instead join Bundesliga 2 side Hansa Rostock.

“Of course both us and the player had imagined his time at FC Schalke going much differently. However, you have to consider what is best for everyone involved. Lee is a great player and total professional, and wants to put himself in the best position to feature for his country as well. Based on this, we have agreed to end his loan – which we entered into knowing there was no risk involved – before the transfer window closed. We wish Dong-gyeong all the best for his future,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

The Royal Blues had signed the attacker on the final day of the winter transfer window last season from South Korean first-division side Ulsan Hyundai. A few weeks after the move, the 24-year-old was sidelined for several months with a broken foot. He featured in one competitive game for FC Schalke 04, against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
