Schalke 04 appeal against Edin Džeko’s two-match ban

Following the red card shown in Sunday’s home game against Hannover 96 (15/3), the DFB Sports Court has handed Edin Džeko a two-match suspension in a single-judge ruling after charges were brought by the DFB Control Committee. The Sports Court judged Džeko’s challenge as serious foul play.

Edin Džeko walks off the pitch frustrated after his red card.

“We are appealing the ruling because, in our view, a two-match ban is too severe. We do not believe Edin’s action was one in which the opponent’s health was recklessly endangered, as the DFB states in its single-judge ruling,” explained FC Schalke 04 board member for sport Frank Baumann.

If the two-match ban stands, Edin Džeko would miss FC Schalke 04’s upcoming games away to Darmstadt 98 and at home to Karlsruher SC.
