Edin Džeko’s suspension reduced to one game after successful appeal

Following a hearing on Thursday (19/3), the DFB Sports Court cut Edin Džeko’s ban from two league matches to one and upheld the player’s appeal. A fine of €20,000 was also imposed. The Bosnian was shown a red card in Sunday’s home game against Hannover 96 (15/3).

At Thursday’s hearing, Schalke’s representatives convinced the judges that the player had not acted recklessly. “We are grateful that, in the interests of the game, the decision was taken to shorten the suspension. Edin put forward his arguments very convincingly. We would also like to thank Professor Christoph Schickhardt, who was there as legal counsel, and his team for their work together with us on this case,” said Frank Baumann, board member for sport.

Edin Džeko will now only miss the next match away to SV Darmstadt 98 on Saturday (21/3).
